Stien Bekaert

Artist Stien Bekaert, known for her compelling mixed-media assemblages, answered the question 'What is intimacy?' for Generation WOW and Saforelle. She did this through a recent work that represents intimacy and connection.

"Today, we expose our personal and professional lives for everyone to see. We all play with intimacy on a large scale," says Stien. "As viewers, we experience a flood of intimate images every day. These can be extremely personal but also very mundane. Are the emotions we feel real? Or are they just entertainment? As an unreliable narrator, I selectively choose these images. In this way, I create new emotions and reshape our experience with intimacy and connection," Stien explains.
